The Last Leaf

In each of the stories of this collection the main characters find themselves in a situations which demand immediate and drastic action in some cases, or a firm and steady resolve in others. However, all stories pinpoint moments when the main character gains a greater understanding of self and of the prevailing attitudes of society. The settings are all in the South, where the natural beauty belies the underlying many existing prejudices: racial, religious and social class. Character growth and insight are prevailing themes throughout.
