The Jumper's Grave has many poems that talk of love between a man and woman. There are parts of the poetry where a man talks to the woman because she looks toward him as a guide, as if she has no lover. Many passages explain the intricate conversational parts of an ongoing relationship between a man and woman. Some are explicitly clear telling how the man wants to protect the woman. It is an explanation of an Angel's protection as he is by the woman's side, at all times, as a spirit. There are also poems that talk about deaths of people due to suffering and hardship. These were friends or relatives of the woman, people who sometimes came back to give her a message as they had become a spirit. In fact, many people who died would come back to say good-bye, or to let her know they are living a new life.
