About The Author


Jim Sorenson is an entrepreneur, CEO, and investor, and one of the leading impact capitalists in the world. He is Chairman of the Sorenson Impact Foundation, which funds sustainable, scalable endeavors that maximize positive impact on people and societies. Jim also endowed the Sorenson Impact Institute at the University of Utah, and is a member of the National Advisory Board of Impact Investing. As an entrepreneur and CEO, Jim's companies have been instrumental in developing new industry categories and creating tens of thousands of jobs. Sorenson Communications, which he founded, was a pioneer in digital compression software and internet-based Video Relay Services (VRS), which transformed opportunities for deaf and hard of hearing individuals. He has also led companies in fields as diverse as medical device testing, microfinance and private equity investing, and cosmetics, and served as Chairman of the Board of MediConnect Global, a leader in medical records digitization and data analytics. The Sorenson Impact Institute, which Jim endowed, educates students on the disciplines of impact capitalism, giving them direct hands-on experience in making and managing impact investments. It also oversees the leading impact capitalism conference, SOCAP, as well as the annual Sorenson Impact Summit. Jim has served on many community boards, including University of Utah's David Eccles School of Business Advisory Board, Gallaudet University, the University Venture Fund, Art Works for Kids, the Utah Sports Commission, and Trustee of the University of Utah.
