The Gospels According to Thomas

An Interpretation

by Robert W. Hart

Book Image Not Available Book Image Not Available
Overview
The Gospel According to Thomas was discovered in the Dead Sea Scrolls, and contains the earliest-known Christian gospels. Labeled heretical by the Catholic Church, they paint a picture of Jesus Christ that conflicts with the figure the Church needs him to be. In this interpretation, author Robert W. Hart takes each gospel and offers another way of understanding in terms of non-biblical Eastern traditions, including Buddhism and Hinduism.
Description
The Gospel According to Thomas is a gospel discovered in the Dead Sea Scrolls and represents the earliest know gospels we have and have been labeled as heretical by the Catholic church. They have done so because these gospels paint a very different picture of who Jesus was that conflicts with who the Church needs him to be. Many of these sayings are not easily understood and therefor open to misleading interpretations. The intent of this book is to suggest that they can be understood in terms of spiritual traditions that are about attaining to higher realms of awareness as opposed to western traditions that would use them to create dogma.
