About the author
Larry K. Grubb, “Doc Grubb”, is board certified in the specialties of Child and Adolescent and Adult psychiatry. Dr. Grubb’s academic achievements include: bachelor degrees in Civil Engineering and Zoology; a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the University of Kentucky. After medical school, Dr. Grubb completed an internship and residency in adult psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. His exciting life has included being a civil engineer working for the L&N Railroad; serving as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division; a naval line officer in a nuclear ballistic submarine and a medical doctor in the U.S. Navy during which time he spent 4 years at the Pentagon working on healthcare policies for the military. Dr. Grubb retired from the military after completing almost 30 years of active duty service but has continued to work with military members and their families in addition to his private practice in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Dr. Grubb’s extensive training and life experience enables him to work effectively with children, adolescents and adults who suffer from mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, attention and impulse-control disorders such as ADHD, and more severe mental disorders. Most recently Dr. Grubb was responsible for evaluating and treating military member who have Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury. Although Dr. Grubb specializes in individual psychotherapy and pharmacologic intervention for all forms of mental illness, his main focus is helping people who struggle with compulsive overeating.
He is the author of the book “Solving the Weight Loss Puzzle,” and the eBook “Get Your Head Out of the Refrigerator.” His CD “Reaching Your Natural Weight” has received much praise from parents and educators.
Dr. Grubb’s dynamic presentations and seminars have received enthusiastic reviews and acceptance from diverse educational and social organizations. Attendees have commented especially about Dr. Grubb’s unsurpassed ability to present complex biological and psychological terms in an easily understandable manner.
In his limited spare time, Dr. Grubb enjoys reading, drawing and painting recreations of the lurid covers to the pulp magazines of the 1930s and 1940s.
