Chevy California, contracted to investigate the occult and strange in 1970's New Orleans, has made a living out of dragging dark secrets into the light. When the dirty cop who fronts her intel asks her to disrupt a drug deal as a personal favor, Chevy discovers that there's more to the back alley bargain than just cash and narcotics. The revelation of a secret society reaching the very top of New Orleans' government threatens to herald the return of a dead god--one whose first order of business will be to wipe clean the Earth of all human life squatting on it. Chevy, between killing gods and tackling cults, keeps an eye on her ailing mother. Beyond the threat of human extinction and the human struggle of loss, Chevy must take stock of who she wants to be, so that she may confront who she is supposed to be.
