Overview
How can the minority business industry sustain itself in today’s hyper-competitive world? In The Capacity to Succeed, Dr. Mel Gravely unpacks a well-researched approach for minority firms to build an ongoing capacity to succeed. In his most aggressive book to date, Gravely makes the case for why minority spend “rules” must give way to building capacity as the only solution for sustainability. But how can they do it? This fast-paced, easy-to-read book articulates the activities, thinking, and measures that work. Specifically, The Capacity to Succeed: • Details how minority business “rules” are hindering capacity growth • Outlines the three primary capabilities of successful firms • Explains why these capabilities are often missing, even in large minority firms • Exposes the myths about how capacity to succeed is built • Defines what major buying organizations must do (and stop doing) to enable capacity building in minority firms • Pinpoints attributes and behaviors of the minority owners who grow the capacity to succeed—and explains why others never will • Reveals why most minority business support organizations are not helping to grow capacity and outlines how they can Be prepared to uncover candid realities, thoughtful insights, and new strategies that all minority business owners, major organizations, and community leaders can put into practice today.
