Overview
"The Bible Amendments" takes the Good Book to task on several levels. Christ's messages of peace, love, and understanding are contradicted by teachings found largely in the Old Testament. The God in the Old Testament endorses war, slavery, chauvinism, the second-class status of women, people of color, and the LGBTQ community. This is not the message Christ brought to the world. The God in the New Testament seems to be 180 degrees different than the one in the Old Testament. Equal rights for all of humanity have been left to the government, but even the most civilized countries have not reached true equality. "The Bible Amendments" shares Rex Troute's heavily researched perspective on how to achieve this goal.
Description
In today's technological environment, if a business fails to keep up with the advances in its field, it becomes extinct. If a democracy fails to pass legislation for the betterment of its entire country, citizens become bitter and riotous. If a religion refuses to step beyond 2,000-year-old thinking, it could lose followers for not adjusting to the times. The words in the world's most popular book, the Holy Bible, are etched in stone. In fact, there are warnings at the end of Revelation about changing the text in any way. It's time for change in the Holy Bible. Governments have found the need to make changes when it comes to individual rights in terms of who can vote, who can marry who, the rights of people of color and sexual orientation, and protecting people from hate and abuse. Equal rights for all of humanity is not found in the Holy Bible. "The Bible Amendments" brings to light how long it has taken to bring equal rights to women, people of color, the LGBTQ community, the poor, and the weak. This refusal for change in the Holy Bible only continues a vicious cycle of bloodshed; denying people equality; and hating others based on racial, cultural, and religious designations. Humanity will not evolve if Christianity does not bring Christ's message of peace and love to people. "The Bible Amendments" is a proposal for Christian leaders to consider if the religion is serious about people loving each other like brothers and sisters. Otherwise, humanity will continue to make the same mistakes from generation to generation, and not reach its true potential.
