By L. C. Allen

Overview

As he matures, Will Crockett finds himself at odds with his school administration, other institutions of the town, and the town itself, which is all fueled by the controlling entity, the local manufacturing plant. He needs to get out, but his best option for college is still two years away. So, he tries the next best thing, but it's dangerous to be a small voice against the deafening roar of the plant. Description

"It is dangerous to be right in the matters about which established authority is wrong" – Voltaire. Will Crockett knows this quote well and repeats it often. In fact, it's become a mantra for his existence in Milldale. He tried to do the right things, take the right stands, be on the right side of history, but the entire town is led by the local manufacturing plant, and they always end up being the opponent on every topic. This is particularly true for the schools and the vindictive principal who has always been out to get Will. As he grows and begins to see how the rest of the world beyond the borders of Milldale works, he becomes more belligerent and resistant to the narrow-minded philosophy of the town. But his stance only lands him in deeper trouble. Will needs to get out, but can he survive two more years until he can escape to college, or will he be broken and faced with a dead-end job in the plant, as his father and grandfather before him were stripped of ambition and humanity?

About The Author

L.C. Allen writes in the northwest hills of Connecticut, secreted in a 1788 farmhouse with his wife, confidant, and editor, Pat, along with Bella the cat and her three curious progenies. With chewed cables and "QWERTY" dancing, it is a wonder that any progress is made on the five novels he has published. Any errors and typos are to be blamed on feline intervention. Despite the distractions, he has managed to pen several works, including "A Tin Full of Gold," "Black & White," "Unto the Least of These," "Misfit," "The Bells of Milldale," and Sedge Island Slaughter."
