Communication shapes every relationship, yet it’s rarely as simple as it seems. In The Art of Awakening True Communication: A Guide to Cultivating Clarity, Compassion and Connection by Nancy Jill Sundberg, readers explore how becoming self-aware can transform the way people relate to themselves and others. The text is divided into three parts: personal groundwork, communication in relationships, and communication in the wider world. The personal groundwork section invites individuals to use stories, explanations, and short self-observation “experiments” to examine themselves internally. As an introvert, I’m naturally internal, so I found it reaffirming to read this book about communication. The conversational tone of The Art of Awakening True Communication by Nancy Jill Sundberg is what kept me reading from beginning to end. It felt both practical and heartfelt. I enjoyed the personal stories, especially about her family and teaching experiences. They helped make the concepts easier to understand. I found the writing to be direct yet warm and often funny, which was quite helpful when more serious topics like grief were addressed. Overall, this book is encouraging, and I will use the information in it in the future. Readers who enjoy reflective, spiritually minded, or self-help books will likely find this resource accessible and personal.
