Overview
The Abominable Snowman Checks His Watch is a collection of off-beat, often humorous poems that rarely tell a story but spin off from their opening lines through a world of wry insights and cock-eyed images. This is a book for the sophisticated reader of poetry who is ready to be charmed by the work of a poet not averse to experimentation.
Description
The Abominable Snowman Checks His Watch is Murray Moulding's eighth collection of poetry and carries on the structural experimentation of his previous books. These are off-beat, often humorous poems that rarely tell a story but spin off from their opening lines through a world of wry insights and cock-eyed images. Certain characters show up with some frequency: old Mrs. Winesap, Chan the scissors grinder, Milo the electrician and Uncle Heber, along with various surgeons, psychiatrists, constables and ship captains. "The Great Artist paints portraits on television screens . . ." begins the poem "Portraits" and from there illuminates the consequences. "We drained the pool/And there was the missing blunderbuss" from the poem "Goldfish." One of many wonderful discoveries in a book of matchless discoveries.
