Her most recent life, that of writer, has shown her that her seemingly scattershot past has provided a wealth of material for her fiction—mysteries about women with some backbone and brains. With her low threshold of boredom, her works are not only contemporary, but also involve time travel, history, and fantasy. Joan has two children and lives in Richmond, Virginia.
