About the author
Former Wide Receiver for the N.Y. Jets, Tavon Mason was born April 16, 1980 in Baltimore, MD. He is the son of John H. Mason Jr. and Ann Spears and the brother of Jermon Mason. He attended Woodlawn High School where he excelled athletically and academically. After finishing high school Tavon accepted a full athletic scholarship to The University of Virginia where he graduated and also set a record for the longest kick return in schools history in 2001 for 100 yards which can only be tied not broken. after a short stint with the N.Y. Jets Tavon played one year with the Baltimore Mariners and turned to his passion helping kids and giving back to his community. In 2010 Tavon launched his foundation/organization titled Tavon Mason Loves the Kids and began visiting childrens hospitals, schools and doing speaking engagements across Maryland. Tavon made it his mission to promote healthy eating, being active, healthy lifestyles and education through his own health expos, sports fit days and through his visits. Tavon used the quote "Dare to be Great" as his driving force and created his own challenge to families to change their lives by incorporating his 60-A-Day Promise which challenge families to do something active for 60 mins a day.
