The book's illustrators are high-school students and includes an interactive maze creatd by a ten-year old who can't wait to get old enough to work in an animal shelter. About the author
Alice Wilson-Fried grew up in the New Orleans Magnolia Housing Project. She is the mother of two, the stepmother of two and the grandmother of nine in a multi-racial and cultural family that runs the religious gamut. Her published works include a nonfiction entitled MENOPAUSE, SISTERHOOD AND TENNIS that journals her journey through "the change"; OUTSIDE CHILD, the first of a mystery triology set in pre-Katrina New Orleans; and ONE DROP, the second title in the triology that has the feuding sister and brother crime fighters (Ladonis and HeartTrouble) caught in the middle of murder and mayhem while struggling to escape Hurricane Katrina. She is currently working on book 3 that has the sleuthing siblings solving a crime while adjusting to life in their hometown following the most devastating storm in the city's history. OUTSIDE CHILD received the 2008 Silver Award for Excellence in Independent Publishing and was a Finalist earning the 2008 Next Generation Indie Book Award. Other writings include a screenplay entitled THE HOT-FLASH CAPER CLUB which placed first in the 2008 East of Eden Writers Conference contest.
