Summer Is Her Name is a coming of age novel. The book tells the story of one woman's evolvement through the World War II period against the ever-changing background of America during those war-torn years. She wanted nothing more than to spend her life on her Appalachian farm, but after graduating from college she traveled the world.

Summer Is Her Name tells the story of a girl growing up on a small farm in Appalachia (Northeastern Kentucky). She always thought she would spend her life there. World War II came along when she was a teenager and changed everything. She graduated from college, worked in a defense plant, visited West Point, married the love of her life. Many readers will relive these adventures with her, because the reader will have experienced them first-hand.
