About The Author

Dr. Shameka Jones is a family physician, educator, entrepreneur, wife, mother, and children's book author. She believes every child is created with a unique purpose and that God has placed a special light within each of us. Growing up on her grandmother's farm, she learned the values of faith, perseverance, compassion, and hard work—lessons that continue to guide her life today. Inspired by her mother, grandmother, and mentors who believed in her and encouraged her to dream beyond her circumstances, she hopes her story reminds children that their dreams are possible, too. Together with her husband, Dr. Vincent Jones, she co-founded STEM NG2 Math & Reading Success Center and VeraRosa Higher Learning Scholarship, Inc., organizations dedicated to helping children and families grow through education, financial literacy, and opportunity. When she isn't caring for patients or encouraging young learners, Dr. Jones enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children. Her greatest prayer is that every child who reads The Light God Gave Me will discover the beautiful light God has placed within them and courageously let it shine.
