Overview
After over hearing a conversation between a neighbor and her Owner, Sophie awakens her sons, Ruther and Cotton, and sends them away from the plantation. over the next 24 hours they outwit the pursuing overseer and escape to the west. They are befriended by a rancher in West Texas, nearly killed by an Indian tribe and be- came a warrior and a warrior trainee. leaving the tribe and taking three women with them, they went to Arizona territory and began building a ranch, when the Us government kicked them off the land to build a fort. They were well compensated for the sweat equity.
Description
After overhearing a conversation between a neighbor and her Owner, Sophie awakens her sons, Ruther and Cotton, and sends then away from the plantation. Over the next 24 hours they outwit the pursuing overseer and escape to the west. They are befriended by a rancher; Matt Morgan, in West Texas and worked on the ranch for a year. leaving their, they were wounded and captured by Indians after saving the chief's brother. They stayed with the tribe for two years and became A warrior(Ruther) and warrior in training; (Cotton) As such, Ruther was allowed access to the widows of the tribe if the widows were so inclined. They were so inclined that they neglected the other braves. Ruther had to leave. The 2 young men and 3 women that left the tribe looked to begin a Ranch in Arizona territory. They set up initially where the US government would want to put up an army fort. They were well compensated and moved their Ranch 30 miles to the east. Their life henceforth were filled with trials but never so much as when visiting Tucson. For 12 year the toiled and built their dream, fathered children, confronted Indians, until they thought it was time to go and get their Mother! The war between the North and South had been waged. Reversing their steps of 15 year, They go back to the Circle M, and visit Matt Morgan and the hands who had been told of their both being escaped slaves not, as they were led to believe: Slave owners son and slave. Finding her mother embroiled in a situation that caused not to want to go west with them without taking Miss Beth who was once her owner. With slight of hand moves Sophie convinced Beth to go west with her! Beth became involved in the family, believing Cotton was her son(killed in the War). When she met Matt, sparks flew for them both and Beth married and stayed behind. After arriving back at the ranch and settling in for a couple of months, Sophie and Cotton goes to Tucson where Sophie is confronted by the stable hand and Cotton has to deal with him. As they were preparing to return to the ranch, Sophie hear a familiar tune!

Joined IBM 1980, Retired IBM 1996. Joined Marina Unified School District in 1996 as computer tech. Retired MUSD 2005. Substitute taught at MUSD 2006-2011. Wrote novel "Of One Womb The essence of two families. Published in 2012. Copy write of "Sophie's Boys" 2014. Interest in writing occurred as I was teaching in element and Jr. High schools. Subject matter "Sophie's Boys'' occurred while contemplating race relations in the early days after the emancipation! and what if. My family began outside the small town of Homer LA. My grandfather was born a slave somewhere around 1852 he died in 1956, 104 years later. His mother's name was Sophie. After that beginning, my imagination took over! This is a novel of fiction.
