About the author

I am a 25 year old childhood cancer survivor. At the age of four I was diagnosed with stage IV Neuroblastoma, and was given very little time to live. Through experimental treatments and the perseverance of my family and doctors, I am blessed to be alive today. Though, I was very young when undergoing treatment, I still have memories, and surprisingly have memories of coping through tests and procedures. Through my memories of the hospital and hospital experiences, I came up with a new type of book for young children with cancer. Today I am a certified child life specialist and have a BA in studio art. I wrote this book in 2011, while getting my degree as a child life specialist, but knew that it would not be finished until I could complete the illustrations myself. So now the first book in Sophie's journey is complete, but I know there will be more to come.
