As the heir apparent to the behemoth Barrington Holdings International, Christiana Lynn Barrington seemed to have it all. But beneath the surface, her charmed life is carefully controlled and managed by her father, the brilliant but egocentric Jonathan Robert Barrington. Through she believed her father loved and respected her, there was always a certain distance between them. He was "Father" not "Dad." Christiana couldn't help wondering but never had the courage to ask, if he secretly wished he'd had a son. Even so, she reveres him and has sacrificed her personal happiness, including her marriage, for Barrington Holdings International and for him. "There is only one man in your life and it's your father," as her ex-husband puts it. Still, the rewards would be great: not only the reigns of her father's empire for herself, but one day for her own daughter as well - and maybe most importantly to her, his love and admiration. Now a threat to her hard-earned succession waits in the shadows ready to take everything she's worked for away from her. Christiana must fight for her rightful place - even as her world collapses all around her . . .
It was always "Father" never "Dad." Although the love and respect is manifest, so is the distance - the distance not as apparent. Christiana Lynn Barrington's pedigree life is a carefully constructed world built, presented and controlled by her billionaire father, Jonathan Robert Barrington. And a failed marriage is proof of that. Now positioned as one of the world's most desirable and eligible women she did not lack for male attention. However, her love life remains static with her responsibilities as a single parent ( even with nannies and household assistance), the demands of a multi-national corporation and the sustained obligations to her father overshadow the glamour of being a Barrington. The words her ex-husband, Michael Trent, threw at her at the termination of their marriage continue to haunt. "No man will ever be able to compete with your father." She knows it might be true. Still, she is the presumed heir apparent as the only child of Elizabeth Matthews Barrington and Jonathan to the behemoth Barrington Holdings International. She never knew anything else. "Groomed from the womb," she would often quip. Frequently she wondered, if he would have preferred to have had a son instead of a daughter but never had the courage to ask - maybe she was afraid of the answer. Christiana sacrifices, love, family and self for the Company, more accurately, for her father, as she readies to succeed him in running their global empire. But a threat to her hard-earned succession waits in the shadows ready to take everything she's worked for away from her. Now she must fight for her rightful place - even as her world collapses all around her . . .
About the author
Writing is Peggy Hattendorf's third career. Holding a Master's Degree in Human Services, she served as a senior executive in a number of successful non-profit agencies. Her writing career started composing technical and operational handbooks for staff and volunteers in this sector before she applied the same skill set to the travel and leisure industry. The venture in the travel industry spanned more than twenty years and encompassed owning a number of travel management companies. This led to the co-founding of a marketing consortium for small full-service and cruise travel agencies as well as independent contractors. Sales quickly grew to over $180 million annually and represented global travel products. She negotiated all the travel vendor contracts. The nationwide network consisted of more than 5000 serious sellers of travel. For this membership, she wrote daily travel advisories, supplier updates and important worldwide travel news that impacted the travel agent community. In addition she wrote a bi-weekly e-news letter called Peggy's own Perspectives (POP) with general travel information and personal travel picks. While her past professions cultivated her interest in technical and travel writings, she has expanded her attention to fiction with her debut mainline fiction book titled "Son of My Father - A Family Dynasty." Having traveled extensively and lived in Los Angeles, New York, Austin Texas, San Francisco and environs, and San Diego, she now calls Los Angeles home once again.
