Overview

SOMEONE ELSE FIRST is an old fashioned, serious read. Experiences of one family during the tumultuous years of the twentieth century shape Douglas McFarlane's view of America. He develops a conviction that his increasing anger and desperation are caused by his own generation's pollution of American ideals. Hollowed out by hopelessness, Douglas contemplates suicide. However, infuriated that "someone else" caused his disillusionment, he is led to a curiously consoling act of homicide.

Description

SOMEONE ELSE FIRST explores the divergent paths of Baby Boomers through the eyes of a man with black and white values. Yet, he slips into the gray world of relevance that he condemns. The McFarlane family history from the Depression through World War Two with the tragic loss of a son in the Vietnam War is the background for a man's developed belief that his baby boomer generation has lost its moral compass. His heart is with the Greatest Generation while he struggles with a post sixties life not of his choosing. Tormented by rigid ideals that are battered and pushed aside in his attempt to live in accordance with his perception of his parents' footsteps, despair and anger come to the forefront.
