Description
Sit With Me at Sundown: Nostalgic Poetry for the Young at Heart puts classic poetry and stimulating fine art back in the hands of those who need it most: seniors living with dementia. Life's Journeys, the first in the series, is designed to help families, friends and care partners reconnect in meaningful conversation. If you've struggled to re-engage your loved one, Life's Journeys will take you back to simpler times—together. Like all of Nana's Books, Life's Journeys is specially designed to meet the needs of seniors living with dementia. Based on the most current research in neuroplasticity and the aging brain, Nana's Books aim to engage people both cognitively and socially, which are crucial components in maintaining brain function. Like music, poetry stimulates the brain on a visceral level and accesses intuitive thought and memories, even when rational thought is lost or in decline. Because dementia occurs on a spectrum and degrees of impaIrment vary greatly, Nana's Books are a powerful resource. They can be used daily, in a variety of ways, to engage the mind and heart. The cadence of poetic language benefits the still-independent reader who is in early stage dementia just as it soothes those in late-stage impairment who can still enjoy the evocative language and visual images created by the spoken word.
