About The Author


Adiam Tsegaye, Ethiopian American with Tigrayan roots, is the Owner/Chef of Mela Bistro in Oakland, California. She embarked on her culinary journey at an early age, alongside her mother. Recognizing her passion for food, her parents presented her first cookbook in her native language at the age of thirteen. After completing culinary school, she relocated to California, where she managed Café Lenza and Adiam Teff Delights before assuming the role of Executive Chef at Mela Bistro. Many of the recipes in this cookbook draw inspiration from her experiences in Tigray. Adiam, with 18 years of expertise in the food and hospitality industry, expresses her heritage through her cooking. Additionally, she serves as a board member for Community Kitchen, a nonprofit organization in Oakland that provides restaurant-standard meals to the unhoused community.
