Overview

This book is dedicated to David Heitpas. He was a very kind gentleman and a wonderful storyteller. This Book is David's story that he shared with me nearly 30 years ago.

The book teaches many lessons including friendship, activism, courage, forgiveness and humility.  Monty and Patsy's friendship is an example of how we can get along with others from various cultures and who are different from us.

"Saving The Night" has 40 to 50 works of art illustrated by Bill Tierney. This book is full of fabulous paintings making it a great coffee table book.

It stars "Monty the Mushroom" and "Patsy the Daisy ". They are named after my best friend, Pat "Monty" Towle and my mom, Patsy Caron. They're the hero and heroine of this adventure, and their personalities jump off the pages.

Description

"Saving The Night" takes place in the land of The Quetico. There is a king, a queen and a prince. The prince ends up trying to save his dog and falls down a well for 2 days and he becomes afraid of the dark.

Years go by and Prince Quentin turns 16. King David tells him it's time to go and be the mayor of Atikokan. David is still afraid of the dark and puts lights up in the Village of Atikokan and throughout the forest to help him not be afraid of the dark. Prince Quentin steals the night.

Monty the Mushroom and Patsy the Daisy decide they must save the night. Even though they're just a mushroom and a daisy they use their friendship and courage and meet many kind strangers along their journey to save the night.

The prince learns how to use the power within himself to overcome his fear of the dark and apologizes to the nocturnal plants and animals. Those who love and need the dark and those who need and love the light celebrate all night.

About the author

This is Matty Caron's first children's book, " Saving the Night". It is a story his dear friend David Hieptas told him 30 years ago and wanted to publish but passed away before realizing this dream.

Matty Caron grew up in St. Paul, MN and has been practicing chiropractic on the corner of Snelling and Randolph for the past 30 years. He lives with his wife Michelle in Hudson, WI where they raise their two sons Jacob and Danny. Danny loves children's books and Matty and Michelle still enjoy reading books to him. Matty has always wanted to write a children's book and thought bring David's book to life was the perfect project to start. The project took nearly 5 years to complete and was Matty's creative outlet during the Covid shutdown.

Bill Tierney is an incredible Illustrator and painted each illustration in the book. "Saving the Night" wouldn't have happened without Bill's works of art. Jamie Schultz photographed the paintings for the printing of "Saving the Night". Willie Burns did all the graphic formatting of the manuscript and covers.
