Overview

Sarah Marie Risotti was born into the world with ten little fingers and ten little toes, but the process of being born was not kind to Sarah. This is a magical, tumultuous, sad but joyful story of Sarah’s life and how her life shaped the world of those around her.

Description

Sarah's World is an honest and sometimes heart wrenching narrative of the painful decisions parents must make on behalf of their children. This book touches upon the medical, nursing, educational and social issues that Sarah and her family faced as they navigated within and beyond the special needs arena. It is a human interest story that will resonate with parents, teachers, medical folks, and all  who are concerned with the welfare and quality of life of our most precious resource, children .

About the author

Deb Risotti is a registered nurse. She worked in various areas of critical care nursing, but especially enjoyed her time in the Recovery Room. Deb's nursing career gave way to advocacy for the disabled and their families as she learned more and more about the system through her own experience in providing Sarah with a meaningful life. She worked within the system for many years and now willingly offers support and advice to families who find themselves in circumstances similar to her own.

Deb and Jim Risotti continue to live in the house they built for Sarah back in 1985. Sarah's brother, Dan , lives in South Boston, Massachusetts and works for an innovative information technology company, which is committed to bettering the lives of others through charitable giving and sponsorships. Numbered among the charities that his employer sponsors is the Franciscan Hospital for Children and the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress. Dan leads an active lifestyle, participates in the outreach programs of his employer, and makes a point of being at every family function. The Risotti's practice the lessons they learned from Sarah, living in the moment as much as possible and grateful for their time in Sarah's World.
