Description
In this soulful and beautiful book, you are invited to re-invision your home as a place of sanctuary. Using a template based on an ancient sacred structure along with architectural concepts this book shows how to incorporate patterns of sacred space into your home. Illustrated with beautiful photographs and line drawings, each chapter includes exercises and practical suggestions. In a world that seems to grow more chaotic and cantankerous with each passing day, we need places of sanctuary, spaces where we can reconnect with our own center and with the sacred, more than ever. Our homes, ideally, would provide such spaces, and Anne Knorr, drawing on her professional background as an architect, her experience as a spiritual director and her own life of deeply seeking, finding and living the sacred, is a most excellent guide in this undertaking. Anne invites us to contemplate the three primary spaces of a home - the public, the private and the intimate. Each chapter explores one essential theme in this process, and includes dozens of examples, a summary of key points called "rules of thumb," and brilliant, creative exercises to help us do something with the information, not just read about it! The book is as esthetically pleasing as it is rich in content and inspiration. Knorr quotes the great mythologist Joseph Campbell: "You must have a room or a certain hour of the day or so where you do not know what is in the morning paper. A place where you can simply experience and bring forth what you are and what you might be. At first you may think nothing’s happening. But if you have a sacred space and take advantage of it and use it everyday, something will happen." This delightful book makes it possible for all of us to create our own sacred space at home.
