Tom Walker a British overland travel tour operator working in cooperation with the Turkish tourist office in London found himself trapped in Turkey with a group of 8 tourists in his care during the 1971 Turkish uprising. Martial law had been declared, the army was in control of the country and For bringing scuba diving tourists to Turkey, as leader of the group Tom was arrested and accused of "Insulting the Turkish government, making it necessary to find a way out by sea for his companions before finally fleeing himself into the mountains in a Land -rover with 2 beautiful French girls. who with their beauty, wit and charm helped him evade the police and military road blocks that were being set up throughout Turkey to catch him. Tom eventually escaped in late afternoon by using the sun to dazzle the eyes of the armed Turkish border guards while he crashed his Land- rover at full speed across the Meric river bridge into Greece. full of love danger and excitement this is the true story of a daring escape from Turkey by an innocent man being hunted for a crime he did not commit.
About the author
Tom Walker was born during the dark days of the London Blitz WW2 and grew up playing in the derelict bombed out buildings of London. After his escape from Turkey in 1971 see "Run toward the blazing sun" Never wanting to be trapped again in a strange country, Tom decided to Buy a boat and set sail around the world, figuring that if he ever had trouble again in an unfriendly country he could simply sail away in his boat.. before leaving Britain he asked an old fisherman, what is the best direction to go around the world? and the old man replied "SAIL SOUTH UNTIL THE BUTTER MELTS THEN TURN WEST" and that's exactly what Tom did. Unfortunately due to lack of experience Tom only made it to the USA and because Americans turned out to be so friendly he decided to stay and now lives in Hollywood Florida by the sea.
