Roy Adaptation Model Holistic Assessment Tool

By Marsha E Nickerson

Overview

This comprehensive assessment tool is intended to be used with the Roy Adaptation Model Textbook by Sr. Callista Roy and Heather Andrews and other reference texts. The tool will help beginning nursing students and new nursing faculty understand how to apply Roy's theory to the nursing process and formulate holistic nursing care plans. The Roy Adaptation Model, by nature, has critical thinking properties that will undoubtedly help new students systematically and holistically assess patients. In this tool, you will find a compilation of assessment aids to use in conjunction with the holistic Roy assessment templates. The cultural assessment and guide to taking a sexual history will help students learn how to gather information for the psychosocial assessments. There are guides to aid students in learning and applying the sick and impaired role theory in the role function mode with acute and chronically ill patients. This holistic tool provides a structure for the application of the theory. Using the mode templates, the learner can create a comprehensive care plan or focus assessment. You will find various applications in the appendixes section that promote further understanding. You will discover an application with common adaptation problems, an example of a comprehensive care plan, and an application of Roy to Related Persons: family, organization, community, and the global world.
