The novel is split into three chapters where a slave falls in love with a master, a witch uses her sexuality to unite a township, and a daughter does the unthinkable to stop a generational curse. Each tale portrays the undercurrents of sorrow, tenacity, and aspiration that permeates the African-American experience.

About The Author


Rivers Under Water is Angie Montgomery's debut novel. Her parents picked cotton, sugar, and tobacco in the Deep South; and told her eerie and enchanting tales. She has a B.A from Wesleyan University, an M.F.A from Columbia University and an M.B.A from MIT. She spends the majority of her time in New York.
