Overview
It's 1902, two old buddies are scratching around the woods in the Pacific Northwest and stumble on a meteorite the size of four horses. They know it's terribly valuable. The problem is; It's not on their land! After 10,000 undisturbed years, people get involved and the meteorite is on the move again. What happens next is just as unbelievable as the million-year-old meteorite hitting earth in the first place. Author Roger Muren tells this surprising true story in a fluid, easy to read verse, bringing out the foolishness in people trying to own something so unique and out of this world. The story is complimented with beautiful illustrations, perfect for reading at bed time while gazing at the stars and wondering about all things unique and precious.
Description
Right, Right Meteorite! is the true story of the Willamette Meteorite, the largest meteorite every found in North American. It's an outrageous story about ideas around value and ownership. And, about how silly and complicated people can become when they believe they've found something rare. The Meteorite spun out of its place somewhere in outer space a million years ago, landed in Montana and was moved to Oregon during the last ice age. In 1902, Elly Hughes discovered it and realized he could cash in by setting up a display and charging admission. The matter spun out of control when others began to understand they could make money if they could prove they owned the giant space stone. The whole mess ended up in the Oregon Supreme Court. The story is written in easy to read and understand verse. It's funny and complemented by amusing illustrations. The story is enjoyed by toddlers up through grade school, giving them the opportunity to hear a true story about an outer space object that actually came to earth. Right, Right Meteorite! is for anyone who loves to see irony in human nature, especially when it collides with the cosmos.
