Description
Far from a police procedural, this mystery is about the tangle of relationships at Open Door Treatment Center. After a new medical director arrives to institute progressive and lenient methods of treating addicts, two clients are murdered. Chaplain Brandy Benoit joins the night staff to provide spiritual support for clients and to learn more about the murders. There is no shortage of suspects to investigate. From her first night on the unit Brandy is exposed to the conflict between mental health technician Selena Ramirez, who believes night staff are lazy and hateful to clients and the nurses and therapists who resent Selena writing down staff infractions in her red notebook. Phyllis Carter the night supervisor and Nurse Regina Long were both once married to addicts who turned their lives upside down with the misery of addiction. Secretary Destiny Allen and therapist Casey Flynn had their promotions stopped by the new medical director. Therapist Damon Johnson was having an affair with medical director Harrison's wife Dr. Angela Benfield. Brandy discovers the hidden motivation behind the murders and helps bring the guilty to justice by working with Detective Drew Renaud. Romance blossoms for Brandy and Drew as they work together to find the truth.
About the author
I have worked as a registered nurse, primarily with substance abuse and mentally ill clients, for thirty years. I think I was drawn to psychiatric and substance abuse nursing by the high level of drama occurring on those nursing units. I am an avid reader and rose gardener. I'm fascinated by theology and the metaphysical and obtained a Masters degree in Theological Studies.
