This truth unfolds when a single random moment binds seven strangers into a life-altering chain of events. Set in the Old City in 1947, the story follows Smithy—an emotionally adrift writer—who witnesses this incident in the harbor town of La Vie en Rose and is pulled into the gravity of their orbit: Mary — a luminous woman whose quiet grace hypnotizes all in her circle; a soul who changes lives simply by being present.
 Kitty — restless, yearning, and teetering on the fragile ledge between love and self-destruction.
 Davy — an amnesiac whose forgotten past holds consequences far greater than he imagines or cares to.
 Bear — the classic sea captain who rescued Davy from death by drowning, and serves as the lighthouse for all seeking direction.
 Sheldon — the head butler and a quiet philosopher whose insights cut to the bone and steer others toward truths they've long avoided.
 Mr. H — the café owner who sees more than he says and hides wisdom in almost every tale he tells. As these lives tangle and collide through love, loss, betrayal, and the fragile return of memory—Smithy discovers that even a minor random act can set Design in motion—where it is revealed: who we are, what we're capable of, and who we are meant to become.
