About the author
Dr. A. Nicki Washington is an author, professor, mentor, and speaker, receiving a B.S. in computer science from Johnson C. Smith University. She received a M.S. and Ph.D. from NC State University in 2002 and 2005, respectively, becoming the first African-American female Ph.D. in computer science from the university to obtain a Ph.D.
While completing her degree, Dr. Washington realized that many high-school and college students are unaware of the educational opportunities available, and the necessary steps to be as competitive as possible when applying to universities, scholarships, and fellowships. To address this, Dr. Washington formed 'A' Game Educational Services, which specializes in preparing students for post-secondary academic success. She speaks across the country on a number of topics, including college preparation, mentoring, professional development, and pursuing degrees and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Her efforts in preparing students for college and beyond led Dr. Washington to author "Prepped for Success" and "Stay Prepped." She also offers parents and students insightful information through her weekly YouTube videos, "Prep Sessions with Dr. Nicki," and her blog. Dr. Washington has been a featured guest on radio and television shows such as Fox5 Morning News, "The Daily Drum," and "The Ernest Burley Show." She has also been a featured writer and speaker for institutions and organizations such as Google, USA Today College, Bennett College for Women, Johnson C. Smith University, The DC STEM Summit, National Coalition for Women in Information Technology, and the National Society of Black Engineers. She is a native of Durham, NC.
