About the author
Kathleen A. Matchunis, B.A., M.S., Professional Life Coach, was dubbed "The Child Whisperer" by one of her clients. Kathleen has a background in education with over thirty years of experience. She taught high school Spanish and French and was the coordinator and teacher of the conflict resolution/mediation
program at the school where she taught. She gained insight and experience through being an intern assistant principal, as well.
She is a graduate of FAU with a B.A. in Spanish and a minor in French. She holds an M.S. from Nova Southeastern University in Educational Leadership. Since she wanted to continue helping students and
parents after her career in teaching, she became an academic and life coach for parents and teens in 2011.
When Kathleen became the mother of twins, she noticed that her son was missing some developmental milestones. She soon discovered that he had a some learning differences. While she had taught kids with learning differences for years, the experience of being the mother of a child living with learning differences was an eye-opening experience. She saw firsthand how her son struggled academically and socially. She also discovered that parenting a child living with learning differences is quite different than parenting your typical kid and can cause a lot of stress for parents.
This experience gave Kathleen the expertise necessary to be an empathetic and successful coach. She enjoys helping teens in the area of social skills, as well as academic progress. As a "Skills for Success
Coach" for teens, she specializes in teens who are shy or lack confidence in social situations. As an academic coach, she helps students find the best study techniques for their learning styles in addition to helping them get organized and motivated. Although she has developed a program which addresses the major areas teens and parents find challenging, she offers customized coaching to her clients, since everyone's concerns are unique. She is also an educational consultant for parents, providing them with the resources they need to meet their child's needs.
Kathleen offers coaching to parents to assist them in parenting issues and learning ways of encouraging their children. Her mission is to help teens and parents meet their goals and realize their potential. She takes the struggle out of parenting by providing parents with tips and tools for effectively communicating with kids in areas like feelings, relationships, academics, and social media.
Kathleen is the author of two ebooks: Peaceful Parenting and Optimize Your Life! as well as Positive Parenting: A Guide for Engaging and Connecting with Your Child. She has produced many informational videos on a variety of topics which affect parents and teens.
