Portersville

Fading Glory

By Daryl Haskew

Overview

This novel carries the reader through a summer in 1955 in the coastal town of Portersville on the gulf coast. The story is generic in that it could take place anywhere. It follows the 5th generation of the Papatonis family in the United States as teens as they are faced with young love, competition with others, decision making, and the need to follow the family codes. Much of the novel takes place allowing the reader to experience many of the ways of life during that time frame such as car racing, sailing, fishing, and the onset of rock and roll music. The characters experience the full spectrum of emotions including, happiness, sadness, love, hate, revenge, and loss. It is a high moral novel which does not flaunt sex, murder, and other immoral acts. The reader will learn that character is earned and not given. Glory is not given by others, but through personal effort.
