Description
Are you a diabetic? Could you use a laugh? Do you know someone with diabetes who could use a laugh? No, wait — silly question. All diabetics could use a laugh. Laughter is definitely the best medicine (well, OK, along with insulin and actual medication, that is) and it’s free, unlike medical supplies that can cost a fortune. Fortunately for us, author Dee Dee Diabetic has an excellent sense of humor and has learned that humor is the best coping mechanism, especially for those of us who are in the “Diabetes Club”. This book is intended to give you a break from deciding whether to spend your limited income on diabetic supplies or food. It’s to make you grin when you want to cry and to let you know you are not alone. With this book, Dee Dee’s sending you love and jokes to put a smile on your face when you’re feeling down, and to remind you that we’re part of one of the biggest clubs out there — there are millions of diabetics in the world. So, the next time you need a laugh, pick up this little book and read a couple of pages. Or go to DeeDeeDiabetic.weebly.com and send us your story. Oh, by the way: A portion of the proceeds from this book go to the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
About the author
Dee Dee Diabetic was a happy and healthy person — until the surgery that changed her life forever. It caused Type 1 Insulin-Dependent Diabetes. Ever since the surgery, Dee Dee has to have an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor in order to manage her blood sugar and stay alive. Dee Dee's Type 1 diabetes is unique because it was caused by surgery. The doctors removed 70% of her pancreas and removed her gall bladder completely. Dee Dee still has 30% of her pancreas, and it turns itself on and off whenever it wants to, so she has to check and correct her blood sugar all day long, every day. Dee Dee's blood sugar is very out of control too: She has dangerous and extreme high and low blood sugar changes all day and night with no warning at all. She has hypoglycemic and hyperglycemic unawareness. That means Dee Dee does not feel the symptoms of high and low blood sugars. She has to monitor her blood sugar constantly by testing her blood sugar and with the help of her insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor. Every diabetic out there knows what this is all about. If you’re a diabetic, you’re in this very exclusive club! Dee Dee and her family and friends make jokes and use humor to help them get through all of this. When someone in your family has diabetes, it affects everyone around them. These jokes are Dee Dee’s way of coping. She created this book for herself and her family, and now offers it to you with a hug and a smile. Dee Dee hopes that this book will bring laughter, humor, education, understanding and escape for all diabetics and their families and friends.
