Description
Play Like a Champion, is a fictional story set in 1960. About a small high school football team in Bethany Beach, Delaware. After an undefeated Freshmen season, the Sophomore class looks to change the team's losing past. Not only do they possess outstanding athletic ability, but they also provide leadership, and a moral that the upper-class lacks.
The new head coach installs a new offense, that suits the talent and abilities of the super sophs. It's only a matter of time before they replace the upperclassmen who want to cling to the old ways. The veteran players who catch their enthusiasm and work ethic begin to blossom. The seniors and juniors that want to keep things as they were, because it's their TURN to play, can interfere with the team's chance to finally win.
The book has plenty hard hitting, realistic action. But also, there is - lighthearted banter - friendly arguing and debating among the friends, players and coaches - A couple of DOINKS, that decide games - A great fight song to keep the team spirit high for the fans and the players. A head coach that doesn't mind having fun, as long as the players earn it.
Will the new head coach be able to mix the talents of all his players into a winning team? Can he convince the new AD that lifting weights is a good thing? Will the Duke of Earle help them to win? Will the school play the Philadelphia Eagles in a pre-season game?
