Description
Explore the world of urban nature in this award-winning, journal-style memoir of a year in Boulder, Colorado, a city known for its striking setting at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Much more than a starry-eyed paean to nature’s wonders, Pieces of Light is a “journey of the heart,” where Tweit's year is spent reaffirming her bonds, healing her spirit, and settling her young family into a powerfully alluring landscape - until they must move away for work in a distant state. Bloomsbury Review hailed Pieces of Light as “a book to be taken up on a rainy afternoon or a snowy night, a book to be immediately absorbed by, to delight in for years.” New author’s notes at the end of each chapter update the story, considered a classic of urban nature writing.
About the author
Award-winning writer Susan J. Tweit began her career as a field ecologist, studying grizzly bears, sagebrush and wildfires. Her work on the nature of life and our place in it has appeared in magazines and newspapers from Audubon and Popular Mechanics to the Los Angeles Times, and has been heard on public radio. Her twelve books have won national and regional awards and been included in more than a dozen anthologies. Her latest, the memoir Walking Nature Home, inspired one reviewer to write, "You really must buy this book!" Tweit's blog about her journey with her husband's brain cancer and her solo life after his death has a wide audience. Her work has been hailed as "rich in the wisdom of one come face-to-face with the fragility, beauty and poetics of everyday life...."
