Jewish history is a glorious chain of courage, faith, and perseverance. Although Jews have resided in many diverse countries and cultures for centuries, our observance of the 613 commandments is just as strong and unbreakable as it was when originally transmitted from G-d to Moshe at Sinai. Perseverance begins with a taste of the tightly knit Jewish communities of Europe in the early 1900's. The love and concern that they had for each other, their solid family unit, and their devout connection with G-d are ideals to cherish and emulate.
The simplistic beauty of life in the small European towns was shattered by the horrors of wars and oppression. Perseverance is the true story of how one family survived indescribable difficulties, yet tenaciously hung onto Torah observance with every fiber of their being. Their bond with each other and G-d was rock solid, despite the ever-changing traumatic difficulties that they encountered. Although the book focuses on one family, it chronicles a most difficult period in world history, highlighting the faith, courage and hope that is so necessary for human survival. These heroes chose to live every day for others even when they were confined to a situation where it seemed that they had no free choice at all. Their positive and proactive lives are a timeless beacon of inspiration for us all.
Perseverance was written in a family-friendly style, with photos, illustrations, and clearly understandable writing, while avoiding graphic descriptions of the atrocities committed by the cruel regimes in the mid-1900's. The goal is to instill within our children a love and appreciation for who they are, an understanding of where they come from, and the inspiration to make valued life choices as did their worthy ancestors.
