Description
Out of Cryo is the debut piece to the public of author John F. Roosevelt. This short piece of thoughtful science fiction takes place after a human brought apocalyptic event has racked the Earth and forced the many of the last of humanity to leave in search of a new home. Massive sleeper ships were constructed to take humanity away and on them untold numbers are kept in deep cryogenic suspension. For many this is a simple science, not at all engaging for a story, but on a journey for who knows how long you will need some people to come out of stasis to run maintenance, and that is where this story takes place. For one of every two hundred years of space travel a team of volunteers are brought out of stasis to maintain the ship and check on its many people. Always on the look out for system failures and possible new homes these people not only must do the mundane, but also live their lives and have families. This work however, does not focus entirely upon the mundane or the present, but it also searches into the past of the characters.
