Description

Optimal Gut Wellness: A Doctor's Guide to Gut Health, Immunity, and Lifelong Vitality What if your digestive health is influencing far more than your digestion? Your gut is a remarkably complex system that interacts continuously with your immune system, nervous system, brain, hormones, and the trillions of microorganisms that make up your gut microbiome. When this interconnected system becomes disrupted, the effects may extend well beyond bloating, constipation, diarrhea, or reflux. In Optimal Gut Wellness, osteopathic physician David E. Teitelbaum, D.O. draws on decades of clinical experience to explore the many factors that influence digestive health—and the often-overlooked connections between the gut and the rest of the body. Dr. Teitelbaum examines the role of nutrition, the microbiome, stress, inflammation, food sensitivities, intestinal permeability ("leaky gut"), hidden infections, SIBO, and common digestive disorders. He also explores an important dimension of gut health that is often overlooked: the relationship between the digestive system, the nervous system, and the body's musculoskeletal structure. Readers will discover practical approaches to: • Improve everyday dietary and lifestyle habits • Support a healthy and diverse gut microbiome • Understand how stress can affect digestion • Recognize potential triggers of inflammation and digestive symptoms • Understand common digestive disorders and their underlying contributors • Learn about probiotics, supplements, herbs, and fermented foods • Appreciate the connection between the gut, brain, and vagus nerve • Explore how osteopathic principles and treatment may complement conventional approaches • Develop a personalized strategy for improving gut health and overall wellness This is not simply a book about treating digestive symptoms. It is about understanding the gut as part of an interconnected system—and recognizing that improving gut health may be an important step toward improving the health of the whole person. Whether you are dealing with chronic digestive symptoms or simply want to be proactive about your health, Optimal Gut Wellness provides an understandable, practical guide to helping your gut—and your entire body—function at its best.
