Oh Daddy Chronicles

By Barry Robbins

Overview

The Oh Daddy Chronicles is a contemporary political satire.  It pokes fun at just about everyone, but especially at the 45th President of the United States - a guy named Trump.  A lot of ground is covered in 46 irreverent, offbeat, and easy-to-read episodes, in which no one and no thing is sacred - not even a grilled cheese sandwich.  Much of the action takes place in the Oval Office itself, through whose doors enter Ivanka, Don Jr., Pence, Pompeo, Barr, Giuliani, Fauci, Cuomo, and Conway, to name just a few.

Description

No one and no thing is safe in the Oh Daddy Chronicles - a political satire taking dead aim at the 45th President of the United States - a guy named Trump. It's structured as largely independent skit-like episodes, each one taking on a different target. One reviewer described it as: "This is Saturday Night Live, in written form, on steroids." Who am I to argue?

The episodes generally take actual events we're familiar with, toss in a healthy dose of comic imagination, and put everything in a blender. What emerges is anyone's guess, but it's usually pretty funny. The "Chronicles" answers questions such as why the President was so into hydroxychloroquine and how his cognitive impairment exam actually went.

Helping to carry the burden of irreverence is a motley assortment of lovable supporting characters - Squishie the FedEx deliveryman, the fortune cookie master Wang So Fun, the tomato sauce expert Giuseppe Sauceatoni and, of course, Melania's dear Uncle Slobodan, the pig farmer from Zagorje ob Savi.

About The Author

Barry Robbins is a retired CPA with a keen interest in things having nothing to do with accounting. He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1975 with BS and MS degrees. He worked 26 years for a large international accounting firm. Then he quit. He moved to Helsinki, Finland with his Finnish wife and two beautiful daughters. After living there full time for 12 years, he began dividing his time between Finland and Florida. He now spends most of his time in Florida. The years spent in Europe allow him to see the U.S. through different eyes —from both the inside and the outside.  This, plus his experience as a freelance ghostwriter of book reports for lazy third graders, makes him uniquely qualified to serve as Chronicler-in Chief of the Oh Daddy Chronicles.

Delightful reading The Oh Daddy Chronicles by Barry Robbins was an unexpected delight. It’s a political satire making some pretty sharp, and very funny, jabs at the 45th President of the United States and those surrounding him. Topped off with some lovable fictitious characters like Squishie the FedEx deliveryman and Melania’s pig farmer Uncle Slobodan, the book is hilarious. Be prepared to laugh out loud. There are 46 episodes plus an epilogue, each reading like a short play or skit, showcasing the President and one or more of his many minions in what is usually a most unflattering light. Even Andrew Cuomo makes an appearance. It’s hard to pick a favorite episode, but I really liked the one with NSC staffer Fu On Yu that was a riff on the Abbott and Costello “Who’s on First?” routine. Overall, highly recommended. Read more
Lucinda
Lucinda Clarke for Readers' Favorite The Oh Daddy Chronicles by Barry Robbins is a satirical account of modern-day politics in America. It’s a series of short skits, each tackling a different aspect of the day-to-day running in the White House. Famous people are thinly disguised, or not disguised at all, and lampooned for various reported actions, many of which have hit the headlines around the world. The main character is described as narcissistic, insensitive, and with a below room temperature IQ. He has huge problems with words, zero understanding of the world, and is shown to be totally unsuitable to run as much as a hot dog stand. Various other characters come into play, the Fed Ex delivery man, the various ministers, the Press Secretary, and several of those who once worked in the west wing, but whose services are no longer required. In the Oh Daddy Chronicles by Barry Robbins, we meet the leader of the free world in a less than favorable light. The author satirizes every aspect of the bizarre and often unexplained behavior of the current incumbent in the White House. This could be described as a Marmite book; you will either love it or hate it. In many places it sounds very funny, in others, I was puzzled. It would make complete sense to readers who are familiar with all the various ministerial officials, some of whom I did not know, so I lost some of the humor. I guess the man famous for his tomato sauce, or the Chinese who runs the local take away are caricatures of the current president’s love of fast food. No stone is left unturned in highlighting his extraordinary behavior and proclamations. Whichever party you vote for, I dare you not to laugh at some of the situations and inane observations. The funniest part for me was the vain attempts to contact the head of Twitter; that was satire at its best. Nepotistic members of the family do not escape the author’s eagle eye as we meet some rather bizarre relations along with real people who have often appeared in the news. It’s refreshing to read a book that ignores political correctness and has the ability to poke fun at important figures and lesser statesmen. Read more
