Description

"Nucci" is fiction fueled by fact. A coming-of-age saga across three generations. His story and vintage photos place you in his world of thrills and secrets—an insider's story of triumphs and betrayals. Nucci's family, the Loyal Repenskys, was a celebrated troupe of equestrian bareback riders John Ringling brought to America in 1933. "Nucci's" adventures include encounters with Hitler's Sturmabteilung in Berlin, Fidel Castro in Havana before his Cuba takeover, and witnesses to Somosa's attempted assassination in Nicaragua. "Nucci" begins in 1944 when two-year-old, Nucci, and his mother survive the fire that destroyed Ringling's big top during a performance in Hartford, Connecticut. Later, Nucci's estranged father dies attempting the quadruple somersault. Nonno—Italian for grandfather—tells Nucci he must fulfill his father's legacy. Enter 10-year-old Burt, Nucci's neighbor and a year older. Nonno tricks Burt into catching Nucci on low casting. After the family's circus tour of Cuba, the boys return to a thirty-two-foot-high flying trapeze rigging. Nonno's goal: the triple somersault. The next years see the boys polish their flying skills. When they're ready for the triple, Nonno succumbs to cancer. The boys are grief stricken. Willie, a retired flyer, shows up as coach. The boys, now 18 and 19, learn the major tricks. The triple is achieved at a resort's summer circus in Georgia. There, the boys are coached by an enigmatic man whose secrets lead them all to the height of trapeze stardom. Will the quadruple somersault be attempted? What happens comes with shocks testing everyone—and may kill Nucci. "Nucci's" denouement is a series of revelations that shock, surprise, and gratify everyone.
