Cal Wiser, mild mannered and nerdy, just got word that his investment portfolio will not support his retirement and he must work for another seven years; however, he is about to lose his job and has to get a new one quickly while in the midst of a recession; and he may have uncovered evidence of a fraud that will put his life in danger.
Brian Ives, a handsome, young, aggressive, Senior Executive Bank Vice President, just learned that his promised promotions to the presidency and Chief Executive Officer positions at the Great Dominion Bank will not happen. To get even, Ives implements a scheme to defraud the bank and gain his promised titles. Wiser uncovers the scheme and he and Ives square off in a battle for survival.
Once Ives' scheme is implemented, the bank suffers millions of dollars in losses. Before Ives can accomplish his objective, however, Wiser uncovers the fraud. Fortunately for Ives, he learns that Wiser has found out about the scheme, but he has to learn the extent of Wiser's information. Unfortunately for Ives, his methods of determining what Wiser knows are faulty and events quickly spin out of control. Fearing prison, Ives begins to eliminate anyone who can connect him to the pretense. Ives, however, is not the only killer unleashed by the fraud, as someone wronged by Ives' scheme wants to settle the score. Caught now between two ruthless killers, Wiser’s life is in constant danger.
When he’s not being hunted, kidnapped or shot, Wiser somehow keeps his sense of humor as he struggles to come to grips with all the issues these sudden turn of events have created, as well as starting a new life with a quick witted woman with whom he meets, involves in his travails, and falls in love.
