There is a description for each species mentioned, along with defining characteristics for identifying individual species. Edibility is mentioned, but this is not a foraging guide. This book is perfect for identifying and appreciating mushrooms as a hobby. Some of the common species included are Chanterelles, Chicken of the Woods, and Old Man of the Woods. Various poisonous species are discussed like the Angel of Death. The watercolor illustrations and photographs help show key characteristics that define each mushroom.

About The Author


Laura Sellers earned my Bachelors of Art and Design from North Carolina State University's College of Design, and her Masters of Fine Arts from Western Carolina University. Currently, she is located in Asheville, North Carolina and is teaching two-dimensional design foundations at Warren Wilson College. She married her husband, Eric Harrison, in 2016, and he is a professional lighting and sound engineer for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Their collaborative work includes projection mapping on sculptural forms with video which is essentially "painting with light." When Laura has free time, she likes to go on long forays with her schoodle, Brody.
