I was born in Sanford, Maine and graduated from Sanford High School. I discovered that working in a shoe factory did not give me the satisfaction of doing volunteer work. Volunteering had its own rewards.
I worked in soup kitchens, and was head cook on a reservation for elders and daycare.I worked with mentally disabled adults, the deaf, the homeless, ex-cons. I became an activist and visited death row prisoners. At one time I was writing to fifty death row prisoners.
One of my greatest joys was welcoming home vets from Saudi, Arabia as a clown. A teacher wrote in my yearbook that I was one of the best writers in the class and that she looked forward to reading the my snappy little remarks. And a priest inspired me to make a total commitment. I pray I didn't disappoint them.
