Overview
An adventure into lands he had once only ever dreamed of seeing and a dramatic shift from the constants of the life he has known, a young man abruptly uproots himself from Los Angeles to live and work in Northern Thailand before continuing on a journey that will take him across the length and breadth of this little blue rock we call home. Wonders of the World, exciting new cultures, strange and inspiring encounters – he has much to learn of the broader world through the lens of his many explorations. One part travel, one part coming-of-age, all parts hilarious, #narwhal is a true accounting of one young man's journey around the world. What he sees, and what he experiences teach him that while it may be getting smaller every day, the world is, actually, quite a big place.
Description
It started with a map. Blank spaces, uncharted waters, the unknown both overwhelming and beckoning at once. A growing desire for adventure usurps a lifetime of preparation for an "ideal" path through life. Trading the comfort and security of his well-loved life in Los Angeles, a young man abandons many of his earthly possessions and takes a sharp left turn from his current track to move to the other side of the world to live and work in Northern Thailand. Why did he decide to go? What did he experience while he was there? Where did he go next? When will he return home? #narwahl goes beyond just the anecdotes of his journey and the levity he tries to bring to every situation, it explores the differences in the many cultures experienced by the author on his trek through cultures he has never truly appreciated nor been exposed to. How we maintain dignity and the way we show respect, how we reconcile individuality versus societal responsibility and the way we balance family and tradition with our daily lives, how we choose to celebrate our triumphs and the way we comfort each other in our sadness, how we learn from one another and the way we exhibit essential human kindness – join the author as he attempts to reconcile his purely Western upbringing with the nuances of being abroad. Readers interested in travelling to other countries, those with a similar desire to see more of the tangible world, and anyone with a greater curiosity for what lies beyond their own horizon will enjoy the humor and essential humanity examined within.
About the author
Born in the early 90's and raised in a way that can only be described as quintessentially Millennial, Navarre currently resides in Los Angeles, where he endeavors to embrace life to its fullest despite the handicap engendered by his ginger hair. Between work, spending time with good friends, and eking out the odd adventure he uses his free time to write both fiction and non-fiction. Beyond his literary aspirations he also enjoys travelling, scuba diving, studying mythology, watching too many movies, and attending Bar Trivia.
