My Father's Hands

By Marshall Terry

Overview

My Father's Hands, the second novel in Marshall Terry's Tom Northway series, is a gentle, reflective novel about a father whose modest life leaves a profound imprint on his son. The story follows young Bo Northway from his Ohio adolescence, where he watches his father, Marcus, navigate family disappointments and fading dreams, into adulthood, where Bo must reconsider the man he thought he knew. Marcus is no triumphant patriarch; instead, he is part-visionary, part-misfit, a would-be pioneer of early advertising whose career zigzags rather than ascends. Yet, as Bo chronicles his father's struggles, hopes, ambitions, and ultimately illness and his final decline, the portrait that emerges is surprisingly tender. What begins as a personal account becomes a quietly moving meditation on the choices we make and the lasting force of parental love.
