About The Author

Richard Widmack Belot was born in Saint-Marc, in Haiti’s Artibonite Department, and moved to the United States on July 1, 1984, settling in Boston, Massachusetts.

At Roxbury Community College, he studied English as a second language, Spanish, acting, and communications. He later graduated from the Northeast School of Broadcasting with training in television and radio and continued his language studies in Spanish and Italian at Emmanuel College.

In 1993, Belot began teaching English as a Second Language at the Hyde Park Community Center, where he taught students from diverse backgrounds for seven years. He also taught adult learners at Thom Metro Boston and later at Roxbury Community College. His experiences as a language student, educator, broadcaster, and longtime member of Boston’s Haitian community shaped his practical approach to teaching.

He wrote Mwen Pale Kreyòl to help travelers, families, educators, community workers, and anyone interested in Haiti communicate with confidence while gaining insight into Haitian culture and history.
