Overview
Moods, Melanin and Magic: A Manifesto is a collection of poems that promote celebration of self discovery through the lens of a Black woman trying to love herself while also learning herself and how she is present in the world around her. This is a journey of love, womanhood, humanness, and what it means to be magical: the good, the bad, and the beautiful masterpiece that is in bloom. The hope is that the reader connects to the words and sees their own journeys reflected in what is written.

About the author
Brit Nicole is a spoken word artist, community healer, performer, musician, and facilitator based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her first feature performance was in August 2013 at Brewing Grounds for Change. That same year, Brit co-founded PENtastic, one of the longest-running open mics in her hometown. Since then, Brit has taken her talents to Poetry Unplugged, Middle Earth MKE, Imaginary Heroes events, churches, Voltage! Teen Slam, Br(OK)en Genius, and many more. When she is not performing, you can catch Brit hosting an open mic, such as Lyrical Sanctuary, or other community gatherings, such as a game night or writing workshop. She works hard to center reflection, healing, and creativity in all she does, no matter the activity or age group it serves. As a musician, Brit Nicole was a backup vocalist for multiple Milwaukee artists. Through this experience, she eventually became a member of Heal the Hood Soul Collective. Currently, Brit serves the Wisconsin Association for Child and Youth Care Professionals as a board member. Additionally, she is the Board President of Heal the Hood MKE and a member of Rooted Society, a collective of dynamic artists based in Milwaukee, WI, whose music and sounds are founded in faith, authenticity, and creativity inspired by personal experiences as a way of connecting with the world.
