Description

Join Max as she discovers the wonders of exponential growth in this exciting mathematical adventure. Through the simple act of folding a sheet of paper again and again, Max learns how numbers can grow far faster than we might expect. Each time the paper is folded in half, its thickness doubles as the number of layers grows: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, and beyond! You may have heard that it is nearly impossible to fold a sheet of paper more than 7 times. But what if you could keep folding it? Max discovers that the paper would quickly reach incredible heights. How many folds would it take to reach the top of the Empire State Building? Outer space? The Moon? Beyond? The answers might surprise you! All of the math behind Max's adventure is explained at the end of the story.

Math made FUN! Great book! My 9-year-old and I really enjoyed reading this book together! It does a great job of making math feel fun and exciting. We loved watching the numbers grow with each fold of the paper, and my daughter had a blast guessing how tall it would get after each step. She couldn’t believe when the book showed that it could eventually reach the moon! The illustrations are beautiful, which kept her interested from start to finish. I also appreciated seeing Max represented as a brown girl in STEM. Love to see girls portrayed as intelligent and adventurous! I truly think this is a fun educational read that both children and adults can enjoy together. Read more
